How do you go about finding the right lawyer after a serious injury?
A relative was hurt in an accident involving a company vehicle and is now trying to figure out legal representation. Neither of us has done this before. What should you actually check before committing to anyone, and does a referral service make sense here?

I went through something similar a while back, and the main thing I learned is that not every firm handles the same kind of case well. A general practice office and someone who works mostly on commercial vehicle or construction site claims are not really comparable, so it is worth asking directly what type of cases they take. What I paid attention to was whether the practice areas were listed clearly, whether the cost structure was stated upfront, and how specific they were about what happens after the first contact. Vague wording is usually a reason to slow down. I would compare two or three options rather than settling on the first one, and ask about fees in writing before anything is signed.
